How to Play 2048
2048 is a single-player sliding tile puzzle. Use the arrow keys or swipe in any direction to slide all tiles. When two tiles with the same number collide they merge into one with their combined value. The goal is to create a tile with the value 2048.
After each move a new tile (2 or 4) appears in a random empty spot. The game ends when the board is full and no adjacent tiles can merge. Plan ahead — the board fills up quickly if tiles are not being merged efficiently.
2048 Tips & Strategy
- Keep your highest tile in a corner and build around it, rather than letting it drift toward the center of the board.
- Pick two consistent move directions (e.g. only up/left or down/left) and stick to them as much as possible, to avoid scrambling a corner build you've set up.
- Merge small tiles methodically before they clutter the board — don't let low-value tiles pile up unmerged while you chase bigger combinations.
- Think one move ahead. Consider what the board will look like after a move, especially once the board starts filling up, to avoid getting boxed in.
