Hello World!

Intro

After 25+ years in cyber security and enterprise software, recently I decided to move on to a different area where I can work on more entertaining and relaxed things compared to enterprise software. So I have decided to explore game development, starting with the basics, casual games.

In the first phase I will be working on developing puzzles and brain games like word search, sudoku etc. Puzzles that you would solve with a pen on a sunday morning or in your retirement.

Where to start? Gen AI

Following the hype, I jumped on the generative AI bandwagon. Using https://jit.dev/, I asked gemini (while it was still free) and deepseek to create web based games for me, using bootstrap, vuejs libraries only.

The results were not bad, they were not great either, they were lacking some functionality and/or had some bugs that needed to be fixed before the games could be released. But in general it was not bad at all, code generated by AI was good enough as a starting point. They took care of the boilerplate, implemented the game logic in general but was just lacking some details such as touch device compatibility etc. Those issues could probably be resolved by improving the prompts, I used not so detailed, somewhat basic prompts.

Conclusion

Not bad, I can do it. Looking at existing alternative casual gaming websites, they are all bloated with ads, most of them are ugly and look like they were built in the 90s. I have no doubt I can do it better, but as usual the problem is whether others will like what I develop or not. If other people don't like my games then it's all pointless. We will see how it goes...
